Napoli Willing to Sell Juventus Target Edinson Cavani to Chelsea
Juventus’ push to land Napoli striker Edinson Cavani ended months ago after owner Aurelio De Laurentiis refused to sell the Uruguayan to their Serie A rivals. Despite offering Napoli € 20 million, Sebastian Giovinco, and Alessandro Matri, De Laurentis did not budge and it looked as though Cavani would remain at the San Paolo for the 2012-13 season.
De Laurentis, however, has apparently had a change of heart regarding the striker he values at € 78 million. News has surfaced that Napoli is now willing to part ways with Cavani, with Chelsea being his likely destination. The Blues have money to spend after winning the Champions League and they are in need of a goal-scorer after the departure of Didier Drogba.
Chelsea have spent € 80 million so far this summer on Marko Marin, Edin Hazard, Thorgan Hazard, and Oscar. But after their deal with Porto for Hulk fell through, they are now interested in the services of the 25-year old Cavani. In return, Napoli is asking for € 35 million and Raul Meireles who is not part of coach Roberto Di Matteo’s plans. If they accept the deal, Napoli would then use the money to reinvest in a striker such as Giuseppe Rossi or Giampaolo Pazzini.
Cavani scored 33 goals in 47 games last year and was among the top scorers in Italy. A move to the European Champions in England could be happening soon as his future with the Neapolitans looks to be coming to an end. The Supercoppa match versus Juventus on Saturday could be his last in the baby blue jersey.
